Increase visibility of the sanctuary locally, regionally, and nationally, while growing visitation and revenue through memberships, sponsorship, and visitor experiences.

Project

Following the success of the Bringing Kiwi Home campaign, Elevate developed a new marketing strategy and began delivering it through an integrated monthly programme.

Results

Overall increase in visitors to the physical sanctuary, online website, followers to their socials, and money for fundraising.

Key initiatives included:

  • Development of a new marketing strategy and action plan
  • Full management of Google Ads and social media content
  • Launch of a new email marketing programme
  • Audience research through surveys of volunteers, visitors, stakeholders, and businesses
  • SEO research and digital optimisation
  • Photography shoot and new design and video assets
  • Delivery of the Guardians fundraising event, screening sanctuary documentaries
  • Development of the Junior Ranger programme and school holiday activities
  • Launch of a seasonal photography competition
  • Establishment of a partnership with EUGY with ongoing profit donations
  • Development of new corporate sponsorship opportunities and brochure
  • Regional marketing including airport advertising, city centre signs, flags at Nelson Airport, bus advertising, and placements in publications such as The Summer Guide and Nelson Magazine
  • Redesign of visitor leaflets, development of a new website, and implementation of a CRM and marketing automation system

Results

  • 42% increase in visitors to the sanctuary (May–December 2025)

  • 170% increase in high-value website events

  • 2.5 million organic social media views

  • 1,100% increase in Instagram followers and 1,800 new Facebook followers

  • Up to 10,000 monthly engagements on Google Business listing

  • $6,000+ raised through the Guardians fundraising event

  • National and regional media coverage, including the Flood Recovery campaign, which raised $135,000 in four days

  • Strong foundation established for future membership and sponsorship growth through increased visibility and engagement.
